We still have a Horse Race

We still have a horse race, despite what the analysts are saying, this race has not been decided yet. This horse race is not in the home stretch. Sindarov got back on his winning ways by defeating R Praggnanandhaa, picking up a half-point lead after Giri drew with Nakamura. But there are still four games remaining, and we should not forget the critical Round 13 showdown between Sindarov and Giri. Giri will have the white pieces in that game and therefore the advantage of the first move. This match could easily go to tiebreaks if Sindarov slips and loses to Giri in Round 13.

From my experience watching horse racing, a two-length lead can be decisive—but only when the horses are already in the home stretch. And that is not where we are in this tournament. In horse racing, the home stretch—the final straightaway before the finish—typically represents only about 15%–25% of the total race distance. In this event, with four rounds still to play, roughly 29% of the “race” remains. That is far too much ground to call this the home stretch. The race is still very much on.

Every move, position, game, tournament, player has a story, and a song. For this 10th round a lot of the analysts are claiming the song is "We are the Champions" by Queen.... WHOA WHOA WHOA stop the music. We going to go with "White Horse" by Chris Stapleton.

Oh, oh, oh-oh
If you want a cowboy on a white horse
Ridin' off into the sunset
If that's the kind of love you wanna wait for
Hold on tight, girl, I ain't there yet
No, I ain't there yet
No, I ain't there yet
White horse
Someday, maybe you could have your way
Right now's just not the time
Something a man just got to do
I wish you could change my mind
